Delaware Route 896 is a major road in UD: Newark and UD: Odessa. This road runs between Cape Ann, Delaware in the north and Elk Mills, Maryland in the south. The route runs directly through downtown Newark, and players can access North Newark via the Kirkwood Bridge. Therefore, it is the main north-south surface road in Newark.
Overview[]
The section in downtown Newark was originally a frontage road of I-476. When turning from a connecting road, drivers had to follow the signs on the signposts (signs are posted to prevent going the wrong way). Southbound DE 896 was known as Fourth Street while northbound DE 896 was known as Third Street. In the revamp, it won't be a frontage road.
DE 896 is the first major road in the current series to have a by-pass route.
The route is a 4-lane divided highway in rural areas, with a separate left-turn lane at intersections. In urban areas, DE 896 is split into two one-way streets, both 2-lanes each. Northeast of Newark, DE 896 heads directly to Cape Ann State Park, with the road ending at the park entrance and Delaware Route 72. This paid homage to the original I-76 terminus at Cape Henlopen, which was revised in 2017 to extend it. It was originally planned to be 30 mph in Downtown Newark in the revamp but this could change since there will be smooth terrain in the revamp.
There is a bug in the UD: Odessa overhaul related to DE 896. Above the divided highway between US 1 and I-95, there's a random prison gate floating in the air. It is unknown if this bug has been noticed by TwentyTwoPilots, if it'll ever be fixed.
